From JW Jones latest CD BLUELISTED, here's what was happening at Bearlys April 12, 2008.
Openning set, with the band.....featuring Keith Hallett and Jonnie Price on guitars. Peter Rioux on Keys.
No one on camera, during the 2nd set, but there's still the music on the stage and that's why they came.
Ross rocks Gordies Pub at the Scarecrow Anniversary with his performance, just awesome stuff. Peter Rioux on keys and 2nd guitar is the amazing Andrew Butler, wow. Pat Peltier on drums and Dave Cunningham on Bass. If you weren't there you missed alot. This is just the 1st of some clips coming.
We tried to web cast it but Fred-eZone doesn't have the bandwidth to handle it. Too bad...
The lighting sucks at Gordies, but we're here for the music anyway.
I've caught Karen at the Bearlys Sunday Jam a few times and this is another great performance. Head over to http://bearlys.bluestube.com for some more from that night.
This guy has become one of my favourite artists, I just love the vibe he has and the tone and delivery is a perfect fit. Where are these folks hiding?
Hey folks it's Scarecrow's 6th anniversary Monday April 14th 2008. Good old Dave Beattie has done his best to contact everybody who has ever been a part of the band over the past 6 years and so far we have about 17 musicians that will be showing up to create yet another epic Scarecrow jam at Gordie's Pub next Monday night. So let's all get out there and just have one
Slow number. They sure play well together.
Moving to The Country
JW Jones and his crew from Ottawa are headed back east and are coming to Bearlys. If you can't make Bearlys, you're still in luck, because JW is allowing us to webcast his CD Release Party there, Starts around 9:30 to 10:00pm so don't be late.
"JW's pure, honest singing plus guitar stars sprinkled throughout on crisp covers and cool originals make this record a yellow dot must buy addition to the catalog for his fans and for new enthusiasts who are getting to know him."-Dan Aykroyd
If you want to be a camera operator/producer (from your home) for the friday or saturday show, please email us at info(at)bluestube(dot)com.
Well technology is definitely my source of stress. When you lean on the edge and you're old, you're in for a ride.
But don't fear, if there's a problem, that's just what it is and it gets sorted out, so check back.
Sounds always an issue. When we broadcast in the bar, we can't hear tone. So we rely on some input from our viewers. We're still in the mode of making changes, so feedback will just get us there quicker with any new equipment we install.
Anyway, enough of the crap, here's a piece with Mike on Harp, Andrew Gillis vocals and Jamie on Guitar and Matt Hebb on Guitar (right), Gary Potts on drums and Morrow Scot Brown on Bass. This is THE JAM.
Last time I was at the Jam (20 jan) this guy (Barry Mack) got up. I hadn't seen him before. Wow the set was awesome, the band was hot all night....but our recording system was messed and it was lost. This is a clip from the NY Levy 2008. Steve Mariner slips right in there. great stuff.
1st off, this has to be the best run and operated and most talented blues festival in Canada, Maybe anywhere. The music is just some of the best, the realest and the most intense performances anywhere.
Watermelon Slim is at the center of the universe right now and even just sitting listening to him talk is a treat. Although carved and notched and challenged by life, he still just seems to be HIM.
Unforunately, we don't shoot in the big tents at the festival, so you just have to check out Slim next time he's in your area.
However, we do have lots of material from a few local venues (Capital Bar, Dolands, Nicky Zees ) and it's the independent musicians here anyway. Slim's taken...
To start with here's Ross Neilsen at the Capital on Wednesday night with Matt Anderson Sittin in, we've got Cat Bones, Scarecrow, Ross's Sufferin Bastards show, Mark Bird Stafford with Matchstick and the alter boys. A few guest shots with Cat Bones.
A special Jazz side with the open mic at Crumbs.
We've been streaming this clip on YOUtube, so here it is, where it belongs.
Blues on Holiday
The Scarecrow Blues Band has been a staple of new performances here at bluestube and wyred.tv. We have pretty much most of their set lists, but not all with the same players. Alternate players have added new tones and color, with players like Andrew Butler on guitar, Pat Hawkes on Bass and Keith Hallett on lead and slide guitar. This bands style of hard Driving Electric Blues (Allman Brothers like) with 2 guitars, keyboards, and an acoustic in the hands of Dave Beatty their front man, lead Vocalist, is pure high energy. Strong, I mean real strong vocally and the ripping and tasteful guitar work between Johnny Price and Ian Beatty keeps up the high energy output. These guys are playing. Pat Pelletier their unconventional drummer provides a lot of the drive behind their playing. Some of their Bass players have been Robby and now Chris. The addition of Keyboards opens up for a broader scope of music and Dave does some great Van Morrison. Sharon, Chris, Colton and Peter have been sitting at the keys over the last couple of years.
They do alot of the standards in blues like Caledonia, and Further on up the Road, as well as some classic rock like Feeling Alright.
It's been awhile since we've been able to catch Scarecrow. The Monday gig at Bugaboo where we first recorded them is toast. The Boo no longer exists as the Boo. This is the Thursday night show at Nicky Zees. This Thursday, Keith Hallett sits in replacement for Ian on holidays.
This compliments of Richard at Juke Joint Video. its great video work and multi-cameras, that's the source.
Click the title for the Juke Joint, lots of great clips there and some DVDs you can buy.
Thanks for the clip, courtesy Richard Pelletier
Morgan Davis has a new CD out, At Home in Nova Scotia. This is a little public service announcement piece on the cd.
Morgan is a huge fan of the Howlin Wolf and when he's on and in the mood, that's what he loves to play. And you'll want to listen. One more clip from the show.
Morgan Davis has a new CD out, At Home in Nova Scotia. His house Thursday gig at Bearlys turned into a packed house as Morgan announces his new CD and invites a few musicians help him do the show. Regulars inhis trio Geoff Arsenault (Mr Percussion) and Brian Bourne (Bass and Stik). If you don't know Dave McIssac, well he's just outstanding all night long and along with Roger Howse sittin in on the second set, this was quite a night. This clip opens the 2nd set.
Great stuff eh..Joe Murphy on harp. personally my favourite.
Garrett Mason rockin Bearlys as usual. This a bit in the past.
Another clip from Garrett's CD Release. Last tune fromt the 1st set. Joe Murphy and a few others dropped to make even more music.
Someone sent this video , take a peek, some tasty playing. Out of Florida arena...
Brad must be doing stuff right, because there are always great players coming out just to play with the house band. Steve on harp chips in on this one.
From JW Jones cd release party at Bearlys in Halifax, April 12, 2008 for CD BLUELISTED, here's a taste of what the evening was like.
From Harmonicajam.com ....
Harplips jammed along with a tune that Adam Gussow did on one of his video lessons. Front Porch Blues. Sorry for the bad sound quality, had to record on a sony cybershot digital camera
Andrew Gillis hosts the Jam at Bearlys for this Sunday 11 Nov.2007. Peter Rioux is visiting from Fredericton, New Brunswick , just a young keyboard player and a monster one at that. Pete sits in for the night (hard working too). Here's a piece from the end of the night, Pete playing a little hammond. This was the basic Jam Band for this night. Many of these players haven't played with each other before, and that doesn't matter, in fact it helps.
Yea the video is pretty low res...recording a LIVE webcast at 155Kbps video at 240 x 180 this gets out of focus when it gets blown back up to 480x360. The recording Mic is a little out of position, needs a abit more compression on vocals, , less PA and more stage sound, but not bad for the 1st shot, with no sound check. Yet really it helps most with musicians like these. Every Sunday this goes on. We'll start separating the LIVE webcast stream and the recording stream and get a better post VOD copy.
Scarecrow starts the ball rolling on Thursday afternnon with a 3PM matinee. Just warming themselves up to go see Government Mule.
This is classic Scarecrow Blues Band. Dave Beattie, Vocals.
This act should be in a tent where more folks can see the show. Dave is the best vocalist in the maritimes and scarecrows musicians play with hi energy and as tight as a frog's ass. I think the Festival coordinators need to check this show out. Over looking local talent of this caliber doesn't have a reason...perhaps an excuse.
Alex Bailey lends his musical atalents to the Cat Bones Jam on Saturday at Dolands during the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival. On kit is his brother John.
Ross played two nights at the Capital. The 1st night the acoustic show and the 2nd evening was Ross and the sufferin bastards. Speaking of back to back. Here's 2 tunes from Ross's electric shouw to show you his slow and fast sides.
Matt Anderson played the evening with Ross Neilsen, so here's one that features Matt on vocals.
Mark Stafford plays with Matchstick at the Lunar Rogue. I caught some of their 2nd set on camera. Got to love the sound from that 58 Bassman....
For some reason, the video camera picked up a lot of noise, so lines affected the video. I used this bump map effect to cartoonize it.
